Five resources for translators & interpreters - Part 1

What is part of our day-to-day might be exactly what someone else is looking for. This is why I'm sharing five free & online resources that have helped me as a freelance translator and translation student with you, fellow translators, interpreters & language enthusiasts.

Chartered Institute of Linguists & Autónoma Academy: excellent webinars on translation, interpretation & languages, not to mention that they offer you the opportunity to network with fellow linguists.

The Free Dictionary: acronyms, abbreviations, idioms, an encyclopedia, a plethora of dictionaries (in specific fields, such as medical or legal, and in several languages), and even a search engine. They probably have other resources I haven’t found yet 😂.

The American Translators Association website: they have free guides for students & beginners, resources for educating clients, and content for experienced professionals who are looking to take their businesses to the next level too. Carola Berger’s webinar on how to spot scams in the language industry is a must-see!

Creative Commons: great for finding illustrations for your LinkedIn posts, stock images for your website, or even content to build your translation portfolio. The Creative Commons Search Portal lets you explore music, images, books, videos, and more that creators have made available for others to use, share, remix, and build upon. Of course, always remember to credit the author and follow the rules linked to the specific content you’re using.
